Welcome to the Netflix Partner Help Center. Have a question or need help with an issue? Send us a ticket and we'll help you to a resolution.

Please note, these threshold levels are for our Branded Content QC Partner measurements only, and account for the minor variances that exist across different metering solutions. There have been no changes to the Original Delivery Specification and Netflix Sound Mix Specifications & Best Practices v1.4 thresholds:

MUSIC & EFFECTS

  • True Peaks must not exceed -1db TP.
  • Loudness: measurement and adherence not required.

PRINT MASTER

  • True Peaks: must not exceed -1db TP
  • Loudness
    • -27 LKFS (+/- 3 LKFS) average dialog-gated level using ITU-R BS.1770-1
    • -24 LKFS (+/- 3 LKFS) average level using ITU-R BS.1770-4, 1770-3, or 1770-2

Here is our recommended procedure to measure and flag loudness as an ISSUE:

  • There are multiple metering options available, both as plug-ins and enterprise solutions.  Ensure you are utilizing an option that has implemented the Dolby speech-gating dialogue loudness algorithm according to ITU-R BS.1770-1. Use a meter that measures full program loudness according to the ITU-R BS.1770-4, 1770-3 or 1770-2 recommendations.
  • Measure received mix against the ITU-R BS. 1770-1 Dialogue-gated algorithm

  • If the dialogue-gated analysis PASSES, do NOT flag in the QC Request.
  • If the dialogue-gated analysis FAILS, proceed with measuring the mix against the ITU-R BS. 1770-4 full program algorithm.
    • This is the latest version recommended for multi-channel mixes.
    • ITU-R BS. 1770-2/1770-3 can be utilized, if 1770-4 is not available in your meter of choice.
  •
If the full program analysis PASSES, do NOT flag in the QC Request.
  •
If the full program analysis FAILS, flag the Loudness LKFS Out of Spec as an ISSUE and include both the measurements for 1770-1 and 1770-4 or 1770-2/1770-3.

Set up specifications for accurate measurement:

  • Measurement Algorithm - ITU-R BS.1770-4,  ITU-R BS.1770-2/1770-3, OR ITU-R BS.1770-1
  • Short Term Window - 3 Seconds (Does not affect overall measurement)
  • Peak Measurement Type - True Peak
  • Warnings:
    • ITU-R BS.1770-4 or ITU-R BS.1770-2/ 1770-3
      • Target: -24
      • Tolerance: +3/-3
      • Infinite All
    • ITU-R BS.1770-1
      • Target: -27
      • Tolerance +3/-3
      • Infinite Dialog
  • True Peak Threshold: -2dBFS
  • Channel Configuration:
    • 5.1 - L,R,C,LFE,LS,RS
    • 2.0 - Lt/Rt

CHANGE LOG:

  • 04/30/2024 -
    • Updated to more generic guidance around metering options and removed specific plug-ins and enterprise solutions.
    • Added ITU-R BS.1770-4 as the latest standard for multi-channel mixes.
  • 03/14/2022 - Updated tolerance for both 1770-1 and 1770-2/3 standards to +3/-3  to account for slight variances in measurements across tools.
  • 03/12/2021 - Updated "Solutions" to "Enterprise Solutions" in approved measurement tool grid
  • 2/2/2021 - Updated True Peak threshold to -1 dB TP
