Error Code:

Chroma Contamination

Definition:

Chroma Contamination is when there's an improper bleeding of color values adjacent to each other in a frame and causes the intended value to shift. Chroma Contamination can negatively affect the customer experience due to the mistiming of expected values in a frame. In some situations, this could be creative intent, dependent upon the context of the scene.

Severity Structure:

FYI

N/A

Needs Review

The edges of on-screen elements are affected by adjacent colors, or overridden by brighter objects, causing the value to bleed in the object.

Needs Fix

The black level of an onscreen object/character is altered and is not the neutral black value that is expected for the content. Mismatches other portions of the scene.

Solution:

Please confirm if this is creative intent; otherwise, open in the DI and adjust the color timing of these elements to match expected implementation. In more severe examples, reset the black balance of the shot to the expected value.
