Error Code:

Extraneous Dialogue

Definition:

Extraneous Dialogue is additional dialogue information in an audio track that does not match with the on-screen visuals. This might include: a wild track line, duplication of another line in the program, or temporary dialogue that was accidentally left in the final program. Extraneous dialogue impacts the content quality of an asset. If extraneous dialogue is unrelated to the scene or reveals story points at an unintended moment, it can negatively impact the customer experience. Typically, this issue is not creatively intended and any derivatives of the asset will contain the extraneous dialogue.

Severity Structure:

FYI

The dialogue is present, but characters are off-screen.

Needs Review

There is dialogue present, but no characters are shown on-screen. There is no logical connection between what is said and what is seen.

Needs Fix

Dialogue from another scene or program is present.  Characters are on-screen and their lips are moving (lip flap), but the words do not match the movement of their lips.  There might also be an issue where dialogue is present when there should be music.

Solution:

Review and confirm if this is creative intent; otherwise, remove and replace the extraneous dialogue with the correct audio source (i.e. the correct dialogue, music, or environmental effects).
