Feedback

Definition:

Audio Feedback is a type of audio distortion; it occurs when a signal loop exists between an audio input and an audio output. Audio feedback impacts the content and technical quality of an asset. If feedback is loud, obscures dialogue, or occurs during silence, it will negatively impact the customer experience. It is possible that it is creative intent. Any derivatives of the asset will also contain the feedback.

Severity Structure:

FYI

Audio feedback occurs at an inaudible level or is an intended part of the scene.

Needs Review

Audio feedback is apparent in the mix. It could be intended as part of the scene, but it is not overtly apparent.

Needs Fix

Audio feedback is loud and distracting to the viewing experience. There is no on-screen evidence that it is creatively intended.

Solution:

Review and confirm if this is creative intent; otherwise, adjust the affected audio to remove the feedback. It may need to be replaced with a wild track room tone, or music.
