Error Code:

SCANTYPE-NotProgressive

Error Message:

interlace probability: tff=0.010355, bff=0.031623, worst=[139400,139600]

Definition:

The file header indicates the content is progressive, however image analysis suggests the presence of interlaced images.

We need the content to be flagged correctly so that the correct processing is performed on the file as it goes through our system.

When a file is flagged as progressive we do not perform a deinterlace. However if the content is actually interlaced, then the resulting streams that we create will exhibit combing artifacts and negatively impact the viewing experience.

Solution:

Check the file to ensure that the header information matches the content in terms of progressive or interlaced.

For MPEG2 this requires a transcode. If the issue affects a ProRes asset you can attempt to adjust the field order tag within JES Extensifier.

If the content is a documentary that contains a mix of both progressive (e.g. recent interviews) and archive material (e.g. old tv broadcasts or low frame rate film scans), then ensure that the field order of the file accurately describes the newest material (i.e. the recent interviews). Communicate the nature of the content to your Netflix representative via Backlot and they can override the error on a case-by-case basis.
